GRE Exam Fee in India

The GRE General Test is conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Service) and is accepted by thousands of graduate and business schools worldwide. The standard registration fee for the GRE General Test in India is INR 22,550 (approximately, subject to exchange rate).

GRE General Test Registration Fee

The GRE General Test registration fee in India is INR 22,550. This fee covers the cost of taking the test at an authorized Prometric test center or at home via the ETS online testing platform.

The fee is a one-time payment that must be cleared at the time of registration. Partial payments or installments are not accepted for GRE registration.

GRE Subject Test Fee

The GRE Subject Test is also priced at INR 22,550 in India. It is available in subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Chemistry. Students applying for highly specialized programs may need to take a Subject Test in addition to the General Test.

The Subject Test registration process and payment method follow the same structure as the General Test.

Rescheduling Fee for GRE Exam

If you need to reschedule your GRE appointment, ETS charges a rescheduling fee. The amount depends on how early you reschedule before your test date.

Rescheduling within 4 days of the test essentially means paying the full registration fee again. It is strongly advised to reschedule well in advance to avoid unnecessary extra costs.

Cancellation Fee for GRE Exam

ETS allows candidates to cancel their GRE registration, but the refund policy varies depending on when the cancellation is initiated.

GRE General Test & Subject Test:

  • More than 4 days before the test: Partial refund of INR 13,620 credited back to the candidate.
  • Within 4 days of the test date: No refund. The entire fee is forfeited.
  • On or after the test day: No refund under any circumstances.

Score Cancellation & Reinstatement:

  • If you cancel your scores on test day, reinstatement of cancelled scores is possible within 60 days.
  • Score Reinstatement Fee: INR 2,920.
  • Cancelled scores cannot be reinstated after the 60-day window.

Score Reporting Charges for GRE

ETS provides four free score reports at the time of registration. These must be selected on test day before viewing your scores. Beyond the free reports, additional score reports are charged separately.

Payment Modes for GRE Exam Fees in India

ETS accepts multiple payment options for GRE registration. Indian candidates can use the following methods:

Online Payment:

  • Credit/Debit Cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover are accepted for online payments via the ETS portal.
  • PayPal: International PayPal accounts linked to valid cards are also accepted.

Important Payment Notes:

  • All transactions are processed in the currency applicable to your registration region.
  • A returned payment or dishonoured transaction will attract a penalty fee of INR 2,500.
  • Ensure your card supports international transactions before initiating payment, as domestic-only cards may get declined.

Apart from the registration and rescheduling fees, there are a few other service charges that candidates should be aware of before appearing for the GRE.

Hand-scoring is available for the Analytical Writing section only. If you believe your essay was not scored correctly, you can request a manual review for INR 4,170. This fee is refunded if your score changes.
