TOEFL Registration

Online registration through the official ETS portal is the fastest and most recommended method in 2026. The entire process takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and you receive instant confirmation once your booking is complete.

1. Create or Log Into Your ETS Account

Visit the official ETS TOEFL website at www.ets.org/toefl. New test-takers must create a free MyBest account by entering their full name (exactly as on their passport), email address, date of birth, phone number, and country of residence. If you have registered before, simply log in using your existing credentials.

2. Search for Available Test Dates and Centres

Once logged in, navigate to the ‘Register for a Test’ section. Enter your preferred city or country to see a list of available test centres and open dates. TOEFL iBT is offered up to four times per month at most centres. Availability during peak months (October–December and May–July) tends to fill up quickly, so it is advisable to book at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance.

3. Select Your Test Type and Format

Choose between TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) at a test centre or TOEFL iBT Home Edition, which allows you to take the test from your own home under live remote proctoring. Both versions are identical in structure and scoring, and scores from both are accepted equally by institutions worldwide.

4. Fill in the Registration Form

Enter all personal details as they appear on your passport. This includes your full legal name, passport number, nationality, and the purpose of taking TOEFL (study, visa, professional registration, etc.). Any discrepancy between your registration details and your passport can cause issues on test day.

5. Upload a Passport Photo (If Required)

For test centre registrations, you may be prompted to upload a recent passport-size photograph during the registration process. Ensure the image is clear, has a plain white or light background, and is taken within the last six months.

6. Select Score Recipients (Optional at This Stage)

ETS allows you to send your TOEFL scores to up to four institutions for free at the time of registration. You can search for recipient universities or programmes using the ETS database. If you are unsure where to send scores, you can skip this step and add recipients later — though free score sends are only available at registration.

7. Pay the Registration Fee

Complete your registration by paying the applicable test fee through the accepted payment methods. Full payment must be made upfront to confirm your seat. Once payment is processed, you will receive a booking confirmation via email. Save this confirmation for your records — it contains your appointment number, test date, time, and venue details.

8. Receive Confirmation and Prepare for Test Day

After successful payment, ETS sends an immediate email confirmation with your test appointment details. Log in to your ETS account at any time to view or print your registration confirmation. On test day, carry a valid passport (the same one used during registration) and arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time.
