Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships 2024

Since 1976, Inlaks Shivdasani Scholarships have been granted to Indian students to read at top-rated American, UK, and European institutions in a full-time Master, MPhil, or Doctoral programme.

What is Inlaks Scholarship?

It is one of several scholarships available for Indian students allow young people with exceptional talent in most fields to broaden their vision abroad and improve their skills to operate in society, thus making them a future vehicle of change in their environment.

Key Features

The maximum funds allotted by the foundation is USD 100,000.

→ Scholarship funds for applications in a few colleges, such as Imperial College, can exceed USD 100,000.

→ There is a restriction on field trips to India during study tenure (except King’s College London).

→ Scholarships should start within 9 months of acceptance, or they will be forfeited. 

Eligibility

The applicant needs to be a citizen and resident of India at the time of application.

→ Hold a good grade in their previous degree from a recognised university in India.

→ Candidates with a postgraduate qualification or already enrolled (e.g. Master’s or PhD) from universities abroad are not eligible to apply.

→ To have prior admission to the institution and course chosen at the time of the application. 

→ Candidates who have received a deferred offer of admission must have a valid offer for the academic year to be eligible for the scholarships.

→ For Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Fine Arts, Architecture & related subjects, candidates must have a minimum academic grade of 65%, CGPA of 6.8, or GPA of 2.6 from a recognized university/institution.

→ For Mathematics, Sciences, Environment and related subjects, candidates must have a minimum academic grade of 70%, CGPA of 7.2, or GPA of 2.8 from a recognized university/institution.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Online application submission for the scholarship.

→ A candidate must have a valid passport to apply.

→ Only one submission per candidate will be accepted.

→ The online portal will not accept applications that do not meet the academic and financial eligibility criteria as given above.

→ Two LORs are mandatory; one academic referee is a must; candidates must provide official email addresses for both referees. 

→ Applications open every year in March / April.

Selection Process

An independent Inlaks Selection Committee is appointed to select successful scholarship applications.

→ Applicants are judged not only on their past and present achievements but also on their future potential. 

→ Candidates applying for scholarships in art and design (fine/performing arts) will be judged primarily based on their portfolios.

→ The selection process consists of three stages: (1) a review of eligible applications, (2) preliminary interviews with candidates chosen from this review and (3) a final interview with those who succeed in the preliminary round.

→ Candidates who do not receive any communication from the Foundation must assume that their applications have not been successful.

Inlaks Shivdasani Fellowship

The Inlaks Shivdasani Fellowship for Social Engagement aims to empower recent graduates and professionals in their early to mid-career stages to explore options, feel secure in their decisions, and contribute to social change.

The following two groups will each get ten fellowships:

  1. Graduates (applicants must not have attained the age of 30 as of 5.1.2023 and must have a bachelor’s degree).
  2. Early to mid-career professionals (applicants must not have gained age 35 as of 5.1.2023 and must have at least three years of relevant work experience). 

Candidates from urban and rural areas will both receive equal consideration. A present resident of India with an Indian passport is required to apply for this prize.

Therefore, Depending on the geographical location of the fellow, the fellowship stipend will be as follows:

  1. INR 45,000 per month if the fellow lives and works in an “X” category area.
  2. INR 35,000 per month if the fellow lives and works in a “Y” category area.
  3. INR 25,000 per month if the fellow lives and works in a “Z” category.*
