New Update on Canada’s PGWP(Post Graduate Work-Permit) Policy 2024

As of October 7th, 2024, Canada has updated its post-graduate work permit (PGWP) eligibility.

University graduates with bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degrees remain eligible, but college students face stricter requirements.

Only graduates from 966 specified programs in Agriculture, Healthcare, STEM, Trade, and Transport qualify for PGWPs.

After May 2024, students at Public College Private Partnership (PCPP) programs won't qualify unless they meet new criteria.

Language proficiency in English or French is required based on the program.

Study permits are capped at 437,000 for 2025 and 2026, with new provincial quotas.

Spouses’ open work permits are restricted to specialized workers and master’s/doctoral students.

PGWPs can now be issued for up to 3 years, but the cap excludes Master’s, Doctoral, and primary/secondary education students.
